They guys from Youth Group have created a unique space for themselve in Australian music. Forming in the late-90s, their performance radiates a sense of freedom that was characteristic of rock bands during that time. However, unlike a lot of ‘Indie’ music of that era, theirs’ remains relevant.
Why, you ask? As they proved in this ive show, Youth Group have an innate ability to take their time to develop a song exactly the way it needs to be on a particular night, for a particular audience. Perhaps this is why. Perhaps it’s their thoughtful instrumentation, unpretentious and versatile. Or maybe it’s the vulnerable subject matter of their lyrics, brandished against a harsh, real life outlook.
My vote is that it’s all of the above. But don’t just take my word for it. Watch the show right here.
