They’re headed down under soon for a series of intimate theatre shows to perform tracks from their acclaimed seventh, self-titled release. Now Chicago alt-country kings Wilco have gone and inspired a whole new venture – a sandwich shop.
Over in Canada, the proprietors of a new food joint in Toronto have opened the Sky Blue Sky Sandwich Company, named after the band’s 2007 song and album of the same title. Fans can order from a menu inspired by the Jeff Tweedy group’s back catalogue: how about a sandwich with bananas and honey on wholemeal – that the ‘She’s A Jar’. Meanwhile, the ‘Californian Stars’ plate comes with “juicy pieces of chicken mixed with mayonnaise, celery and pieces of apple. Served on our very own white or brown bread and toasted to your liking,” according to the menu.
With a live show that clocks in at over two hours, Wilco’s upcoming Australian tour kicks off on Friday 30 April at the Tivoli in Brisbane, before heading to Sydney and Melbourne. All shows are sold out.
