50 Cent to drop hip-hop... for dance?

Thu 18 Mar 2010
He’s one of the biggest selling hip-hop stars in the USA, but according to rumours, “Do You Think About Me” star 50 Cent set to reinvent himself on his upcoming new album.
Fiddy (whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III) is currently in the studio, working on brand new songs after the success of his most recent LP, 2009’s Before I Self Destruct. Having toured throughout Europe over the last few months, the 34-year-old tough guy says his after-hours partying led him to think about what sort of music he wants to make... and he definitely doesn’t want to pigeonholed.
“I went to a nightclub after party. It was different music after a while,” he’s quoted on Californian gossip king Perez Hilton’s website, about his new direction. “The music they were playing before they were playing the music I created was more up-tempo, more dance. I wanted to make a song like that, so I went into the studio. Because I’m travelling with my live band, I took the band with me and we sequenced it and recorded the actual record while we was out there.”
Fiddy went on to say he’s keen to avoid making hip-hop record after hip-hop record, and more than anything, wants longevity in his career. That, claims, might mean moving into new genres. “I won’t allow myself to be placed in a box where I can only do one style, or do one kind of music,” he says. “They [his fans] should expect the unexpected on this one. If they can understand how I enjoy different genres of music and different styles, for the people who have various tastes in music, they’ll really like it.”
