Although Haste's music fits squarely in the ultra-heavy, groove-over-riff hybrid of hardcore punk and heavy metal that has come to define much of the so-called alternative metal subgenre in the late '90s, Pursuit in the Face of Consequence shows that the band doesn't draw its sonic palette from one standardized source, mixing up the tempos and rhythms and demonstrating that they do listen to music besides heavy metal.
