During 1974-76,
Randy Weston recorded five solo piano albums. It was a natural move for him since, being quite percussive, he really did not need a drummer or even a bassist. This obscure Lp (originally out on Owl and now long out-of-print) finds
Weston performing eight of his originals (including "Little Niles") along with
Dizzy Gillespie's "Con Alma." Many of the other songs were written during
Weston's long stay in Morocco where his music became even more African-oriented than previously. The playing is consistently exciting, but unfortunately this album is now quite rare. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
