Rosemary Clooney's signature voice was silenced forever on June 29 of 2002, but there are over a hundred records that bear her singular artistry. This collection of love songs issued by
Legacy in time for Valentine's Day 2004 contains 16 gorgeous selections from Ms.
Clooney's tenure with
Columbia between 1950 and 1956. Along with her well-known swinging reads of "Love Is a Feeling," and "You Make Me Feel So Young," are intimate torch songs such as "Ebb Tide," and "You'll Never Know." The set is arranged aesthetically, rather than by chronologically, and this is to the producers' credit. Therefore, "Marrying For Love," a duet with Guy Mitchell, is in the dead center of the album, and "Love Is a Feeling," from the Broadway musical Shoestring, opens it. In addition, her version of the glorious "Tonight" from West Side Story is here, with all of its high-style bare and dramatic. This is a great set for the price; it offers a very alluring portrait of Ms.
Clooney's gift. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
