4AD's
All Virgos Are Mad compilation was released in conjunction with the label's 1994 festival in Los Angeles, and features songs from some of the label's finest artists, including
Pale Saints,
Heidi Berry,
Michael Brook, and the Wolfgang Press. The album is a snapshot of
4AD's status in the mid-'90s as a purveyor of jangly, creative pop (as per
the Breeders' "Saints" and
Air Miami's "Pucker"), mood music (
Dead Can Dance's "Rakim," and Michael Brooks' "Diffusing"), and dreamy folk-rock (the Red House Painters' "San Geronimo" and
Kendra Smith's "Bold Marauder").
All Virgos Are Mad also features a rare
His Name Is Alive track, "Library Girl," and album tracks from
Lush's Lovelife and
Lisa Germano's Geek The Girl. A necessary addition to a
4AD fan's collection, the album will also please fans of diverse, artistic pop music. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
