Reports claim The Rolling Stones' recent world tour grossed a whopping AU$628,523,180.

The funds were earned over almost two years, with the final figures revealed to music industry bible Billboard by tour manager Michael Cohl.

The band's revenue (excluding tour costs) means it was the highest grossing tour in history, surpassing U2's Vertigo trek (which topped AU$438 million).

A Bigger Bang consisted of 144 shows across the globe, with more than 4,680,000 tickets sold.

"It was a long tour, but more than anything it was fantastic," Cohl told Billboard.

"We had to overcome a lot; this was like Homer's Odyssey. There were all sorts of difficulties to overcome and it turned out to be just one amazing triumph."
