American singer Chris Cornell – who was recently in Australia to play some solo shows and also support American nu-rock outfit Linkin Park – has shed some insight into the break-up of his latest band, Audioslave.

The super-group was made up of Cornell (who shot to fame fronting Seattle grunge heroes Soundgarden) and three members of Los Angeles’ based political outfit Rage Against The Machine.

The 42-year-old singer says that, despite being proud of his time with Audioslave, his decision to split was a rather easy one. “It might have been different if it had been something like Soundgarden, where it was, for the lack of a better term, my first love,” he says, suggesting that there was members of the band who failed to communicate with others.

“With Audioslave, I didn’t have that same connection. To fight through it just didn’t seem worth it.”
