Australia Day saw the biggest music poll in the world – triple j’s Hottest 100 – count down the most popular tracks of 2007.
Over 700,000 votes were cast in the competition, which saw English prog rockers Muse take out the top spot with their hit “Knights Of Cydonia”. They beat out local lads Silverchair (“Straight Lines”) by a mere 13 votes, while other Aussies in the top ten included John Butler Trio, Faker and The Panics.
The top ten songs of the year, as voted by radio listeners, were:
1. Muse – ”Knights Of Cydonia”
2. Silverchair – ”Straight Lines”
3. Kings Of Leon – ”On Call”
4. John Butler Trio – ”Better Than”
5. Faker – ”This Heart Attack”
6. Foo Fighters – ”The Pretender”
7. Daft Punk – “Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster”
8. Cold War Kids – ”Hang Me Up To Dry”
9. Soko – “I’ll Kill Her”
10. The Panics – ”Don’t Fight It”
