A New Zealand radio station has been forced to say sorry to its listeners, after pulling an April Fool’s Day prank which saw thousands of Foo Fighters fans expecting to see a free Foos gig in Auckland. Rock FM had announced that the “Everlong” rockers – who are currently in NZ, before heading to Oz on their Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace tour – would be playing an intimate acoustic set at a local venue – but when thousands of fans began booking flights to the city, the station was forced to reveal it was just a stunt. Says programme director Brad King, “This is an April Fools gag, dreamed up by our over enthusiastic promotions department and completely untrue. On behalf of The Rock I sincerely apologise for this mis-information. Contracts have been terminated, and heads have rolled. This is what happens when fools plan April Fools jokes.”
