Having scored yet another critically-acclaimed film with his recent concert movie of the Rolling Stones (titled Shine A Light), American director Martin Scorsese has been forced to drop out of the upcoming Bob Marley biopic, due to scheduling issues with other work.

The Goodfellas director is definitely out… but taking his place at the helm of the “Stir It Up” singer’s life story is Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme.

Demme previously released documentaries about Neil Young (Neil Young: Heart Of Gold) and Talking Heads (Stop Making Sense).

Due to be released on February 6, 2010 (yep, they’ve got the exact day locked in, apparently), the biopic is being made to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the Jamaican singer’s life.

Demme says he’s “thrilled and humbled” to be working on the movie, while Bob’s son, Ziggy, says he’s sure Demme’s “unique understanding of the musical documentary form” would help make “the ultimate celebration of my father’s life.”
