DJ Shadow has chosen an "80s-style Nintendo video" for his next single after he gave fans a chance to enter a special competition. The star picked the winning clip for "This Time (I'm Gonna Try It My Way)" from over 200 entries. DJ Shadow told NME.COM he liked the video because it reminded him of a skit on a Nintendo game and it stuck closely to the song's lyrics. "Every phrase that comes up in the track, there's a new scene that symbolises what the person is talking about. There are different little characters that symbolise words and stuff so there's a lot of different characters saying, 'This time I'm gonna try it my way'. "I was surprised how dark a lot of the entries were. To me, the song is supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be feel-good. There is a lot of wit in this video – it makes me laugh – and that's why I really liked it." The clip features a barbershop quartet with moustaches, along with birds hanging on a wire. "When they land on different wires it's like different notes on a guitar," he added. "It doesn't look like any video I've seen. It is quite unique." Winning 21-year-old Ukraine director Mykola Dosenko will pick up a AU$2,496 prize for his submission, which will be shown globally. "This Time (I'm Gonna Try It My Way)" will be released on Monday January 8.
