Hip-hop superstar Missy Elliott (real name Melissa Arnette Elliott) is planning on adopting a child – not because she’s single, but rather because she’s terrified of giving birth.

According to a new interview in People Magazine, the “Get Ur Freak On” singer says she “most definitely wants kids, but I’ll probably adopt. Maybe in the year 2020 you could just pop a baby out and it’d be fine. But right now I’d rather just adopt.”

The 37-year-old rapper will release her seventh album, Block Party, on Tuesday 9 September, with the first single set to be “Best Best".

Elliott also revealed she’s been keeping in shape by regularly playing the computer game “Dance Revolution”.

“I’m not as good as the little kids that come in the arcade,” she jokes. “Their little feet go crazy fast. I’m not that fast, but I’m good on it!”
