Aussie singer/songwriter Alex Lloyd (real name Alex Wasiliev) has avoided a legal trial, after a truck driving musician – who claimed he was owed money after co-writing the hit song “Amazing” – dropped his case.

Mark O’Keefe had claimed he met the singer (who’s currently prepping the release of his fifth LP, Good in the Face of Stranger) at a pub in Rozelle, Sydney, back in 1991.

O’Keefe says he helped write the track’s lyrics, noting down words on beer coasters. At the time Lloyd was only 16; now O’Keefe says he’s got his facts wrong, and that they actually met a few years later.

Lloyd has denied ever meeting the musician, and it’s unlikely the pair will have to face mediation after O’Keefe withdrew his complaint this week.

“Amazing” was voted the number one song in triple j’s Hottest 100 in 2001, and has earned the singer thousands of dollars in royalties after being used in three TV advertising campaigns.
