The Killers performed a 45-minute set at Gridlock LA on New Year's Eve. The event, hosted by Carmen Electra, was held at the Paramount Pictures Studios lot in Hollywood and drew an estimated 5000 people. Across town, Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley and Cat Power drew nearly 10,000 revellers to the newly opened USC Galen Center for a space-themed evening. Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo Green and Danger Mouse donned astronaut costumes and NASA-style jumpsuits for their hour-long set, and headliners Flaming Lips arrived in a flashing, twirling "spaceship" just in time to ring in the New Year. Giant Maximus, held under three tents in downtown LA, drew approximately 10,000 partygoers for DJ sets by Sasha & Digweed and others. Meanwhile, another dance festival, Together As One, drew an estimated 20,000 people, with headliner Paul Van Dyk beginning his set at 2.30am. Just south of LA in Orange County, the OCNYE event at the Orange County Fair Grounds drew an estimated 15,000 for sets by Blondie, Berlin, The English Beat and several other nostalgia-drenched bands.
