With the US state of California granting same sex couples the right to legally marry, American singer/songwriter and outspoken activist Melissa Etheridge has announced she’s making wedding plans with her long-term girlfriend, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels.

The couple are, says the “Bring Me Some Water” singer, busy planning their nuptials, but there’s a hitch – it’ll have to be before November, when local voters will get the right to cast a vote in a ballot calling for an amendment to the state’s constitution.

“Yes, we have four children and we’re trying to find the right time,” 47-year-old Etheridge admitted on the weekend, speaking of the pair’s twin daughters, as well as her earlier two children (all born using donor sperm). Michaels is an actress on the TV show “The L Word”, the couple already having undergone a commitment ceremony back in 2004.

Etheridge’s last album was 2007’s The Awakening.
