After months of speculation, Britpop outfit
Blur have confirmed that they’re set to reform for a special, one-off performance in London’s Hyde Park next year.
The “Parklife” outfit, led by frontman Damon Albarn, formed in 1989 and split in 2003, after which their singer created the cartoon outfit
Gorillaz and penned the odd opera, including “Monkey: Journey To The West”.
Guitarist
Graham Coxon, who also quit the band to head out on his own back in 2002, has agreed to come back on board alongside bandmates drummer Dave Rowntree and bassist-turned-author Alex James.
“It’s gonna be a bit like putting the ‘A-Team’ back together for a job,” joked James. “We’ve gotta bust Rowntree out of law school!”
“Part of me thinks it’s like riding a bike, and it’ll just take us getting the volume turned up and then we’ll be away, and that will be enough,” worries Coxon. “But another part of me is very cautious. So I’m not gonna bother writing a script!”
The show will take place on Friday 3 July, with the media speculating there’s more festival shows to be announced.
