No stranger to controversy, pop icon Madonna might be wrapping up her world tour in South America later this month, but despite selling hundreds of thousands of tickets to the singer’s Sticky & Sweet tour, not everyone’s happy.

A prominent Roman Catholic retired cardinal, Cardinal Jorge Medina, has blasted the singer for causing “crazy enthusiasm” and “impure thoughts” during her first ever visit to the country. The Cardinal paused in the midst of a tribute speech about late dictator Augusto Pinochet, who died in 2006, to criticise the singer.

“This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner, she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts,” said Medina, who was the cardinal chosen to announce the election of Pope Benedict XVI. Madonna will perform in front of 60,000 people each night in Chile, before moving onto Brazil.
