Former Perth rockers
Little Birdy (they’ve since relocated to Melbourne) have announced the release of their third album. Confetti is due to drop in May, with lead singer Katy Steele confessing the title “literally just came out of nowhere.”
With two gold status (35,000+ sales) to their name so far, the 25-year-old singer reckons the LP’s name was a “happy accident”, one which perfectly captures lyrical subjects of “ying/yang, bittersweet feelings”.
Guesting on the LP is Aussie singer/songwriter Paul Kelly, who lends his talents to the track “Brother”. It’s a song Steele describes as “straight up”. “Sometimes I wondered if we should even put it on the record because it’s just so honest and brutal – brutal in the fragile sense,” she says. “The experience of working with Paul just reminded me of why he’s such a legend. It wasn’t like he just rocked up to the studio to do a session – he really poured everything into it. We kinda felt like he joined our band for that day and that was a pretty great feeling.”
Recorded with engineer/mixer Steven Schram, the lead single from the LP will be “Summarize” (due out next month).
