Representatives for US pop icon Michael Jackson have announced the 50-year-old entertainer will see his groundbreaking video for the hit “Thriller” develop into a full stage musical.

According to Jackson’s spokesperson, Dr. Tohme Tohme, the controversial star (currently reported to be working on a comeback album) will team up with an American theatre production company, the Nederland Organization, to begin work on the 1982-inspired project, which will also contain tracks from Off The Wall. “The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theater and musical excellence,” Tohme said yesterday, “so let the music begin.”

Recreating the 14-minute long  story of dancing werewolves and zombies in a full stage production, according to the Nederland Organization, the musical “will be the exclusive Michael Jackson authorised version of ‘Thriller’ and Jackson will participate in every aspect of the creative process”. Directed by John Landis, the original “Thriller” video cost over AUS$761,000 to shoot – about ten times what most videos at the time were costing.
