The Edge (real name David Evans) is causing neighbourhood concerns with his plan to build five mountaintop mansions in the exclusive Los Angeles beach suburb of Malibu. According to the Los Angeles Times, the “Get On Your Boots” guitarist is facing serious opposition to his construction plans, from famous names such as Dick Van Dyke, Kelsey Grammer and director James Cameron.

The Edge – based for part of the year in Dublin, Ireland – says he has no intention of damaging his famous neighbours views. “My family and I love Malibu, having maintained a residence here for more than a decade,” he told the Times. “These homes will be some of the most environmentally sensitive ever designed in Malibu – or anywhere in the world. I’m disappointed that certain critics either don’t have the facts or have ulterior motives.”

Locals however, aren’t so happy. “The downside of this is a permanently scarred mountainside for the benefit of a very few that for many years all will view,” says Jefferson Wagner, a Malibu councilman. “For somebody so revered even to be orchestrating this type of development in such a sensitive area is hypocritical.”
