It was the song that made her a worldwide pop star, but US singer Katy Perry has left one person particular unimpressed: “Supermodel” singer/songwriter Jill Sobule. Sobule had her own brush with fame back in 1995, with her song “I Kissed A Girl” – and she’s not impressed that Perry “stole” her title.

In a new interview, the 44-year-old Colorado singer says that, despite the differences between the two songs musically and lyrically, “you can’t copyright a title... bummer.”

“It did bug me a little bit,” confesses Sobule, “when [Pery] said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream. In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995. I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don’t want to sound bitter or petty... ‘cause that’s not me.”

Admitting that she’s had quite a few “pissed off” moments, Sobule later went onto the slag the pop starlet, label her a “title thief” and a few more not-so-nice words.
