Headed our way in November, the woman behind ‘Sasha Fierce’ – aka American singer
Beyoncé Knowles – is possibly headed to court, with fashion retailer Abercrombie & Fitch Co claiming her plans to launch a signature fragrance in early 2010 will infringe on their existing trademarks.
Two days ago a lawsuit by the company filed in Ohio stated that the “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” label, titled Sasha Fierce, “poses a likelihood of confusion” with the retailer’s own “Fierce” brand. Abercrombie & Fitch Co have had their own named brand for the past seven years, clothes and fragrance aimed at teenagers and young twentysomethings… and worth over AUD$218 million..
“A&F’s intent is that all garments that leave the store have the Fierce scent attached to them,” the complaint said, the popular scent sprayed throughout hundreds of stores across the country. Knowles’ lawyers have yet to respond to the suit.
