Pete Wentz, the bassist with Illinois “She’s My Winona” outfit
Fall Out Boy, has teamed up with a Los Angeles designer to create a brand new “visual project” for his band – “Fall Out Toy Works”, a five-part comic series published by Image Comics.
According to the 30-year-old muso (husband to Ashlee Simpson), himself and collaborator Darren Romanelli are “both kindred spirits in terms of creating cohesive art on multiple platforms,” Wentz says. With the first instalment out this month, the futuristic comic
revolves around a toy maker and his robotic female creation – a story loosely based on the band’s song “Tiffany Blews” (taken from Fall Out Boy’s LP Folie a Deux”).
“Once we started brainstorming, we realised a lot of the lyrics have a certain grittiness to them,” Romanelli says. “From there, the idea just snowballed into a comic.” Wentz originally approached the designer to ask him to design his band’s stage set-up for their upcoming tour.
