Headed our way to headline the 2010 Big Day Out, British trio
Muse have been crowned Best Act In The World by UK magazine Q, at the publication’s annual Q Awards, held in London last night.
The “Uprising” Devon outfit beat off competition from other nominees the
Kings of Leon,
Arctic Monkeys,
Coldplay and
Oasis to take out the coveted crown, while fellow BDO cohorts
Kasabian landed the prize for Best Album, for their 2008 disc West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.
The Alex Turner-led indie kings, Arctic Monkeys, took out the Best Live Act gong, while the magazine also recognised the seminal work of
Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant, who was handed the Outstanding Contribution To Music award.
“Q remains proud of the fact that its awards recognising musical achievement and excellence during the past 12 months are decided by the nation’s music fans, who once again have voted in their thousands,” said the magazine’s editor-in-chief Paul Rees. “We are equally delighted to honour the enduring influence of those artists who have shaped our musical landscape and continue to do so.”
Other awards handed out on the night include Best New Act (
White Lies), Q Classic Album (
U2’s The Unforgettable Fire) and Best Track (
Lily Allen’s “The Fear”).
