American gamer Erik Estavillo isn’t happy. In the gaming community, Estavillo is infamous – he’s previously sued Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, and has already been banned from participating in the online game “Resistance”. Now he’s taking on behind legendary electronic Essex group
Depeche Mode... notably keyboardist/songwriter Martin Gore, reportedly asking the court to issue a subpoena for the “People Are People” singer to testify in the case.
Seeking AUS$1.1 million in damages in a civil complaint against US company ActiBlizz over their game “World Of Warcraft”, Estavillo is accusing the business of “continues to maintain a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game’s sneaky and deceitful practices.” He says paying $14.99 per month to play “World Of Warcraft” has led to problems with “depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorder” – and that Gore can understand him. Estavillo reckons “[Gore] himself has been known to be sad, lonely, and alienated, as can be seen in the songs he writes.”
The 48-year-old musician isn’t the only celebrity Estavillo is calling on – he’s also seeking American actress Winona Ryder to testify, to make the court understand how her love for author JD Salinger’s classic Catcher In the Rye is witness to “how alienation in the book can tie to alienation in real live games such as ‘World Of Warcraft.’”
