Hasidic Jewish New York City rapper Matisyahu (whose real name is Matthew Paul Miller) has announced he’ll return to Australia in March for a quick tour, as well as a spot on the upcoming East Coast Blues & Roots Festival un Byron Bay, NSW.

The 30-year-old reggae and hip-hop “King Without A Crown” musician released his third acclaimed album, Light, back in August, Matisyahu wowing fans across the country during an earlier visit in 2009.

Reviews of the “One Day” singer’s shows saw him labelled as a hot act to watch, with street press rag Beat describing a gig: “Matisyahu commands the crowd to hang on his every utterance, every nuance of his persona and every ounce of his energy. There’s crowd surfing and much dancing in response, and when he and his band go off on extended funk-pop odysseys, everyone is along for the ride…it transcends religion.”

Tickets for the shows in Sydney and Melbourne go on sale Thursday 17 December. Dates are:

Wednesday 31 March – UNSW- Roundhouse, Sydney, NSW

Thursday 1 April – Palace Theatre, Melbourne, VIC
