She’s had a big year, with four million albums sold so far and a swag of awards to her name – Billboard recently named her as their Artist of the Year. Now it looks as though “Love Story” singer, US songstress Taylor Swift – who’ll make her big screen debut soon in the feature film Valentine’s Day in early 2010 – has a chance at donning a superhero costume, potentially landing the coveted role of Supergirl.

According to reports in the US, the 20-year-old singer is a favourite of movie star executives for the gig, producers keen to revive the story of the Girl Of Steel. The original 1984 Supergirl film (starring the unknown Helen Slater) proved to be a flop, and the time is ripe, they say, for a remake. “Hollywood is short of female heroes and the time is right for a new Supergirl,” says a movie source. “A number of young stars are being mentioned for the title role in a Supergirl movie and possible TV spin-off and Taylor is top of that list. She has all the right elements to be a positive role model to young girls.”

The 1984 film, a spin-off of the Superman film series, didn’t succeed when released, Slater falling out of the public eye. Supergirl first appeared in the comic series back in 1959, her alter ego name being Kara Zoe-El.
