A chance meeting between a reporter from an Australian music website and Massive Attack’s Grant ‘Daddy G’ Marshall has led to the revelation that the group, whose long-awaited comeback album is due next month, will follow the release with a visit to Australia.

A writer for Fasterlouder.com.au reportedly bumped into the electronica pioneer in a New York department store, where Daddy G revealed that tour plans are underway. “I think we’re coming in March or April, I think it’s actually March,” he ventured. “I’ve seen it on the itinerary, so we’re definitely going to make it over.”

The “Protection” and “Teardrop” hit-makers have called their upcoming release Heligoland. It features the guest vocals of Blur’s Damon Albarn and former Mazzy Star frontwoman Hope Sandoval, along with the Massive Attack DJ Robert De Naja (otherwise known as 3D). The forthcoming fifth studio album has fans in eager anticipation, as it’s been seven years since the Bristol, UK group’s last disc, 100th Window. Irish singer Sinead O’Connor sang three songs on that release, while Albarn was also a featured guest vocalist. Massive Attack is considered one of the creators of the “trip-hop” music genre, along with Portishead and Tricky. The term was coined in the mid-‘90s to describe down-tempo electronic-based music, which was generally a fusion of hip-hop and house.

No firm details of an Australian tour are available as yet, but stay tuned.
