Local electro-pop duo Empire Of The Sun, who took home a slew of ARIA Awards last year, are up for International Breakthrough Act at this year’s Brit Awards. Luke Steele and cohort Nick Littlemore will also be vying for the top prize of International Album for their debut record, Walking On A Dream.
They’re not the only locals aup for gongs in the prestigious UK awards: New Zealand/Australian artist, Ladyhawke, is also nominated in the International Female Solo Artist category.
In other categories, Lily Allen has scored three nominations at the Brits. She’s a contender for British Female Solo Artist, while her album It’s Not Me, It’s You is nominated for British Album, and its hit single “The Fear” up for a British Single nod.
Breakthrough act Florence and The Machine (led by singer Florence Welch) also received three nominations. The red-haired pop star will go up against Allen in the British Female Solo Artist and British Album (for Lungs) categories, while she’s also tipped as the British Breakthrough Act.
Former Take That star Robbie Williams is set to receive the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award during the show, and is also one of the announced performers for the ceremony, which takes place at Earl’s Court, London, on Tuesday 16 February. There is speculation that Jay Z, Alicia Keys and Coldplay will take the stage together, while it’s also rumoured there will be a duet between Florence and The Machine and Dizzee Rascal.
