?Beyoncé Knowles has won a record six awards at the 52nd Grammy Awards, becoming the most decorated female artist in Grammy history.
Her wins included Best Song for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”, but while Beyoncé won six of the ten categories for which she was nominated, it was country singer Taylor Swift who took home the coveted Album of the Year prize – becoming the youngest artist ever to receive the award at just the age of 20.
Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody”, meanwhile, earned the Nashville band two awards – the prestigious Record of The Year, and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.
Australia’s Keith Urban beat the likes of Trace Adkins and George Strait to take out the honours for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. “Sweet Thing”, lifted from his Defying Gravity album, is the track that earned Urban his third Grammy, though the Nashville-based singer did lose out to Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” in the Best Country Album category.
Loudon Wainwright III was awarded the Best Traditional Folk Album. Meanwhile, Levon Helm – former drummer of The Band – beat Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams and Wilco to pick up the Best Americana album in the first year of that category.
Michael Jackson’s children accepted his lifetime achievement award, while Loretta Lynn and Leonard Cohen also received the same honour.
