Joe Jackson, the father of late pop king
Michael Jackson, has been given permission by a Los Angeles court to access medical records pertaining to the “Thriller” star’s death.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff ruled on Friday 19th February that some records were to be turned over to him by Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and in turn Beckloff will hand them over to Joe Jackson once they’ve been read by the court.
Jackson’s father will only be handed records pertaining to the day of his son’s death, and the weeks following – not records about the singer’s health in the years before he died. Joe Jackson’s attorney, Brian Oxman, revealed that a medical expert, hired by Joe Jackson, will be permitted to read through the files but not copy them, the lawyer insisting that the family needs the records in order to decide whether or not they want to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
“We are very certain based on prior records that we have from the paramedics that
Michael was long deceased and that there were no communications [with doctors],” Oxman told reporters, commenting on verifications that no doctor/patient privileges were broken. Jackson is also seeking to receive an allowance of more than AUS$16,833 per month.
