Call it eating humble pie, but US singer/songwriter John Mayer is still making amends for his controversial interview in Playboy magazine.
The 32-year-old “Who Says” star – who released his latest album, Battle Studies, back in November 2009 – addressed his audience at a gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden over the weekend, once again apologising for his comments, which sparked accusations of racism and saw thousands of fans labelling him a ‘douchebag’ for talking about his sexual past with singer/actress Jessica Simpson.
“I hate to come off like an asshole ever, and thank you guys for believing that I am not an asshole,” Mayer told the crowd, who he later praised on his Twitter account. “Never, ever in my entire life did I ever think that it would be a good idea to be an asshole. But you know what? There’s plenty of assholes who think the same thing, so I have to thank you. It’s a clean me now, people, clean me.”
Mayer previously broke down on stage in Nashville, Tennessee, in the days after the magazine’s publication, the musician vowing to keep his mouth shut in the future.
