He might be one of the world’s richest and most famous musicians, but that isn’t stopping U2 axeman the Edge (real name David Evans) from dealing with plenty of opposition when it comes to investing in real estate.
The 47-year-old “Get On Your Boots” guitarist is currently fighting a development issue in the exclusive Sierra Canyon district of Malibu, where he owns more than 63 hectares of land. Purchased for AUS$10.5 million, the Edge’s plans to build a five home development have come under fire from locals, who are criticising the Irish musician for his allegedly intrusive building plans.
“I believe most of the local opposition is softening as I communicate my intentions of how these homes will collectively compliment the landscape,” the Edge says. “There is a small group of locals who are very vocal and simply want to stop all development of any kind.”
Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Jefferson Wagner, however, isn’t a fan of the Edge’s plans, and wants the development scrapped. “This is not what Malibu is about,” he claimed. “These kind of places are ego run riot.”
The case is set to be decided by the California Coastal Commission in June.
