Fans waiting to hear new tunes from “Nasty” singer Janet Jackson will, unfortunately, be forced to wait even longer, with the singer confirming to Rolling Stone that there’s no new album plans in the works.
According to the 43-year-old performer, two new tunes currently making the rounds – Nothing” and “Heartbeat Love” (in which she teams up with Miami rapper Pitbull) – are definite one-offs, and she has no studio time planned for the new future.
“There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” she confessed to the US magazine yesterday. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.”
Turns out new track “Nothing” is actually a song that’s been kicking around for some time, and was co-written and produced by her former partner, Jermaine Dupri. It appears in the film Why Did I Get Married Too?, which stars Tyler Perry. She described her appearance on “Heartbeats Love” as a “fun favour” for producer Rodney Jenkins.
Jackson’s last album was 2008’s Discipline, and the singer says that she’s not sure what musicial direction she’ll head in once she does finally start recording once again. “I haven’t decided on exactly where I want to go or what I want to do,” she admits.
