She’s easily the most famous and success female performer of all time, but 51-year-old pop icon Madonna can still remember what it was like to be a teenager, obsessed with the world of music and fashion. The singer/actress has revealed more details about her latest business venture: an upcoming clothing line for teenagers and “juniors”, for which she collaborated with her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes (better known in the family as Lola).
‘Material Girl’ is the name of the new fashion range, which will make its debut exclusively in August via US department chain Macy’s. “As we are working, I see her more as a creative person, as an artist,” Madonna says of teaming up with her oldest child. “Then every once in a while, I remembered that she is my daughter.” Turns out the idea to create the line in the first place actually came from the fashion obsessed teen, who’s already spent two tours alongside her famous mother working on the costumes for Madonna’s live dancers. “Lola has been bothering me for ages about designing clothes,” Madonna admits. “My Christian Dior shoes will go missing, and then some fabulous bag or my skinny jeans – the only pair that fit me – are gone.”
With its mix of patterns and layerable “hard and soft elements”, alongside shoes, necklaces and other accessories, the Material Girl range will, most importantly, be affordable, with nothing more than AUS$43. For as Madonna puts it, “When I was 13-years-old, I couldn’t afford expensive clothing.”
