Considered one of the most prestigious music awards in Australia, 20 nominations for the annual ‘Song Of The Year’ trophy, as awarded by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), have been revealed.
With the 2010 winner set to be announced at the APRA Awards ceremony on Monday 21 June, leading the nominations list with two songs – “All Of The Dreamers” and “Burn Your Name” – are Brisbane five-piece Powderfinger, who’ve taken out the honour twice before with their hits “Passenger” and My Happiness”. Also scoring two nods each are Perth rockers Karnivool (for their tracks “All I Know” and “Set Fire To the Hive”), while singer/songwriter Sarah Blasko also landed two nominations for songs “All I Want” and “We Won’t Run”. Kate Miller-Heidke rounded out the two-track nominees with her nods for “Caught in the Crowd” and “The Last Day on Earth.”
Other nominees vying for Song Of The Year include: The Middle East – “Blood”; Bluejuice – “Broken Leg”; Lisa Mitchell – “Coin Laundry”; Eskimo Joe – “Foreign Land”; John Butler Trio – “One Way Road”; Art Vs Science – “Parlez Vous Francais”; Empire Of The Sun – “We Are The People”; Jet – “She’s A Genius”; The Temper Trap – “Sweet Disposition”; Sia – “You’ve Changed”; Guy Sebastian/Jordin Sparks – “Art of Love”; and Troy Cassar-Daley – “Big Big Love”.
The annual APRA Awards recognise the songwriting talents (as opposed to performance) of Australia’s finest artists, in the country’s only peer-voted competition.
