It was one of the hottest rumours in Hollywood… well, for a couple of days, anyway. With the recent announcement that a biopic was underway on the life of Kurt Cobain – the doomed leader of Seattle grunge leaders Nirvana – word in the media over the weekend was that the challenging role was to be taken on by none other than Robert Pattinson, the vampiric heartthrob at the centre of the Twilight phenomenon.
As well as being an actor, the British-born actor is also a talented singer/songwriter. According to UK newspaper The Sun, Pattinson had been locked down to play the tragic musician, who committed suicide 16 years ago. No one at the paper, however, seems to have checked with Cobain’s ex-wife, Courtney Love, who’s serving as executive producer on the film – according to her manager, it’s all hogwash.
“That’s an amazing story, and the first I’ve heard of any of this,” manager Jonathan Daniel told US music title SPIN. “They manage to fit pretty much everyone in Hollywood into an article without one fact check and include a ‘My First Photoshop’ job as a ‘mock up’ to boot!”
Titled Heavier Than Heaven, the movie project has a production deal with Universal Pictures but no leads have been announced as yet. The film will be based on the Charles Cross biography, of the same title.
Love is back in the spotlight this month, with the release of her new album, Nobody’s Daughter, for which she’s bringing the Hole band moniker back to life.
