Perth-based four-piece Gyroscope – who saw their 2008 LP, Breed Obsession, debut at number one on the ARIA charts and its follow-up, April’s Cohesion, come in at number three – are furious that a 15 track ‘best of’ collection has been released… without their involvement.
In a Facebook missive that went out to fans yesterday (posted by the band’s manager, Rae Harvey), the “Snakeskin” rockers accused Warner Music of purposely trying to cash in on the band, after they jumped ship to sign a new record deal with fellow major Universal Music Australia.
“ It has just come to our attention that Warner Music are releasing a ‘Best of Gyroscope’ album. We only found out about this release after being notified by our fans on Facebook,” read the note. “The song selection, artwork and everything about this release has been done without consultation with the band. Gyroscope are a band who have always put our fans first. In our opinion, the release of this album without consultation with the band, and without including any material from our new album ‘Cohesion’, does not represent good value for our fans.”
The four members of Gyroscope – Daniel Sanders, Zoran Trivic, Brad Campbell and Rob Nassif – are said to be upset at the decision, not to do a ‘best of’ exactly but the fact that they had no involvement. The band are set to kick off their Cohesion national tour in Bunbury, WA, in early June.
