Luke Steele, the enigmatic frontman of colourful electronic duo Empire Of The Sun and Perth rockers the Sleepy Jackson, says he’s not so sure about the side effects of his new found fame – especially being asked to sign girls’ breasts.
The 30-year-old “We Are The People” singer, who is currently touring the chart-topping project across Australia with the Groovin’ The Moo festival (despite the absence of his Empire partner, Pnau’s Nick Littlemore) says that while the success of the pair’s first collaboration has been great, it’s resulted in a new, weirder fame.
“I always used to like to go in the crowd at festivals but now it’s a bit of a problem,” Steele admitted to a British journalist, the band set to tour the UK over their summer.
“I’ve become too famous! It’s weird. Well in Australia anyway. I go into the crowd and before you know it there are girls pulling their tops down going, ‘Sign this one! And the second one!’ And it’s like, ‘What am I supposed to do here?’“
After Australia, Empire Of The Sun will play August dates in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, as well as a festival slot at Chicago’s Lollapalooza.
