[Source: NME.com] The handwritten lyric sheet for The Beatles' 'A Day In The Life' has sold for $1.2million at auction yesterday (June 18).

The words, penned by John Lennon in 1967, fetched a much higher price than expected – they were reckoned to go for around half the £810,000 that was eventually paid at Sotheby's in New York.

The sheet features corrections and alternate crossed-out lines to the acclaimed closer of the band's seminal 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' album.

"The outstanding price achieved for these handwritten lyrics is testament to the iconic status of The Beatles, John Lennon and especially this song," said David Redden, the international chairman of Sotheby's Books and Manuscripts Department.
