US singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge landed a surprise Academy Award for "I Need To Wake Up", which appeared in hard-hitting documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Before performing the song during the Oscar ceremony, Etheridge told reporters she was uncommonly nervous and would try to avoid eye contact with any famous types in the front row. "You go, 'I'll just look at the camera', and there's a billion people out there," she laughed. "It's a little crazy." Etheridge has sold more than 27 million albums worldwide.
