Gareth Liddiard, frontman for acclaimed Australian rockers the Drones, has announced he’ll drop his debut solo effort in October.
The award-winning songwriter – who took out the inaugural AMP Award back in 2006 thanks to the Drones’ impressive second album, Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By – is considered one of the country’s best and most cathartic songwriters. With his desolate humour, wild howl and distinctly Australian outlook, thanks to songs such as “Shark Fin Blues” the Drones have become one of the nation’s most well respected bands – despite having no commercial radio airplay (due, no doubt) to the harshness of their sound.
As yet untitled, Liddard’s latest effort will see him strip down new songs to just voice and acoustic guitar, and will be recorded at the country Victorian property Havilah, the same rural spot where the Drones recorded their most recent LP of the same name.
Liddiard’s anticipated solo record will be released on Friday 1 October, distributed by Shock Entertainment.
