Nu-metal Californian six-piece Linkin Park are set to storm back into the charts with the announcement of their first studio album since 2007’s hit LP Minutes to Midnight: A Thousand Suns.
Due for release on Tuesday 14 September, the latest disc by the “What I’ve Done” rockers was co-produced by Rick Rubin (U2, Johnny Cash) and Linkin Park’ MC Mike Shinoda. The first single from the longplayer, “The Catalyst”, will hit radio on Monday 2 August.
With over 50 million records sold and two Grammy Awards up their sleeve so far, Linkin Park are one of the world’s biggest selling bands. Back in late 2009 Shinoda told US music magazine SPIN what fans should expect from their latest effort. “We really want to do something special and unique for the next record – we want to redefine the band,” the “New Divide” muso insisted. “On the new record, now that we have a sense of everything that’s available to us [after making Minutes to Midnight], we can reel it in a bit and focus on just the things that we like, which so far is turning out to mean music that is more beat-driven and has a keyboard and drum machine kind of feel.”
