It’s been rumoured about for months, but yesterday organisers of the annual V8 Supercar race in Sydney confirmed it: legendary Los Angeles bad boys of rock, Guns ‘N Roses, will perform at the high octane motor event.
Led by the reclusive Axl Rose, the ‘Gunners’ (as they’re favourably nicknamed) will hit at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, NSW, on Saturday 4 December to headline the Telstra 500. No doubt they’ll be seriously financially compensated for their performance, with the “Welcome To The Jungle” rockers not ruling out touring to other cities during their latest down under visit.
Last in the country in 2007, Guns ‘N Roses are currently touring the globe in support of their long-awaited 2008 release, Chinese Democracy, which was released 15 years after their previous disc (The Spaghetti Incident). The V8 Supercar event will definitely be the band’s only Sydney show, organisers insist, giving over 200,000 fans the chance to catch the band (and some fast cars) in action.
With over 100 million albums sold, Rose – the creative nexus of the band – is the only original members of the outfit, since the band formed way back in 1985.
Tickets for the Telstra 500 go on sale Monday 19 July.
