Promising to be one of the hottest tours of 2010, cheeky carton outfit Gorillaz (the multi-media music project actually helmed by ex-Blur leader Damon Albarn and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett) are heading down under to Australia at last, bringing their Escape Plastic Beach arena show here at last.
Released back in June, the third Gorillaz’ album cemented the group as one of Britain’s premier outfits, with over 20 million album sales so far. The band recently stepped in to headline the UK’s prestigious Glastonbury music festival, after scheduled headliners U2 were forced to withdraw due to injury.
With a swag of special guests coming along for their Australian trek – names are still TBC, but which included at Glastonbury De La Soul, The Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, Mos Def, Gruff Rhys, Shaun Ryder and Bobby Womack – the “Stylo” outfit are set to bring an absolutely huge show with them. The stadium set up will feature multi-media video, animation, artwork and films of characters Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel as they unveil “a phantasmagoria of sounds, colours and assaults on the senses.”
Tickets go on sale on Friday 6 August, and dates are:

Wednesday 8 December – Entertainment Centre, Adelaide, SA
Saturday 11 December – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, VIC
