It’s already celebrated the sounds of ABBA, Madonna and Lady Gaga, and now hit TV series “Glee” has confirmed that none other than pop princess Britney Spears is set to not only inspire an upcoming episode, but she’ll also make a special cameo.
The 28-year-old “Oops!... I Did It Again” star is honoured that one of her favourite shows is celebrating her music, says creator Ryan Murphy, who insists there’s no way that the cast or script will be poking fun at their special guest star.
“Britney, I think 100 percent, is going to be on the episode,” Murphy confirmed on-air in an interview with E! News host/ DJ Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday 10 August. “She is going to join us for a couple of scenes.” The producer/writer described the episode as “reverential” and “so kind” in tone, insisting, “We are handling Britney with kid gloves.”
“I really admire what she’s done with her life and how she’s turned herself around,” Murphy admitted, when asked about Spears’ past woes, revealing that the star will play herself in a fantasy song ‘imagined’ by one of the main characters, without revealing which actor exactly will be singing her hits. “Britney Spears is pop culture, and I think she’s been through a lot.”
A screening date for the Spears episode is yet to be announced, with the show airing its third season in the US in September. With 19 Emmy awards already in hand for the series, who else would the “Glee” maker like to focus on in upcoming episodes? None other than the Beatles (of course), Murphy admitted, as well as Minneapolis-based R&B/pop god Prince.
