With over 25 million albums sold throughout his 18-year long career, it’s no doubt that Jay Kay – better known to music fans as British soul singer Jamiroquai – is one of the world’s most successful artists.

Now the singer’s disco loving, electronic/funk leaning outfit are set to return to the airwaves with their first record in five years: album number seven, Rock Dust Light Star.

The “Space Cowboy” ‘acid jazz’ outfit, who first came to attention on the music scene back in 1992 with the subsequent release of their chart-topping debut LP, Planet Earth, have been teasing fans with the promise of new music since way back in 2008. Now signed to major label Universal Music, Jamiroquai say they’ve moved away from the electronic vibe espoused by so many current artists and are instead focusing on an organic, live sound. “Everything on the record is live. It’s a real band record,” says Kay. “The last album [2005’s Dynamite] – fantastic – but the whole thing became a little sterile. This time we’ve captured the flow of our live performances.”

Recorded mostly at Jay Kay’s home in Buckinghamshire as well as at the legendary Hook End Manor in Oxfordshire, Rock Dust Light Star sees a rejuvenated band, with new members and their leader revitalised with their new mission. “I do feel rejuvenated, music-wise and business-wise,” says Jay Kay, who claims he was “physically knackered” after completing a previous seven album record deal. “But now, he says, “Everything has clicked and I feel privileged to still be in the game.”

Rock Dust Light Star is set for release on Friday 29 October.

First single is “White Knuckle Ride”, which hits airwaves Tuesday 24 August.
