American pop and R&B singer Janet Jackson has opened up about the death of her older brother, Michael, admitting that the fallout and grief from his untimely departure left her devastated.

Jackson, who is reportedly penning a self-help book titled When The Rainbow Is Enuf, says she relied on a hectic work schedule to get her through her grief, admitting that filming the movie Why Did I Get Married Too? was particularly helpful – including one scene, where she goes crazy with a golf club.

“Bashing up that stuff with the golf club, I enjoyed that. I needed it and it came at the right time,” 44-year-old Jackson told the Daily Record newspaper, of her role as a grieving mother. The singer/actress returned to work on the production the day after her brother’s funeral. “After reading the script and then going through what had happened in my own family, I was really thankful for the opportunity to completely let go of some things, to just unleash.”

“I left the service that night, jumped on a plane, and was on set the next day,” she continued. “Life goes on. You have to as well. You can’t just stop. It’s not healthy.”

Jackson, who performed a few of her hits earlier in this year while appearing as a special guest on “American Idol”, is said to be working on new material, her previous release being 2008’s Discipline.
